Vibration Analysis I (Iso Cat I Asnt Level I)

The Vibration Technician "Entry Level" course is intended for personnel who are new to vibration monitoring and analysis, and for personnel who have limited vibration analysis experience. The course focuses on periodic, single channel data collection and analysis for condition based maintenance programs. A foundation is established for in-depth understanding of spectrum and waveform relationships.

You will come away from this course with a very good understanding of the fundamentals; you will understand how to take good measurements (and understand the importance of repeatability); and you will be ready to begin analyzing vibration spectra.

Principles of vibration
  • Motion, r.m.s./peak/peak-peak, frequency/period
  • Displacement, velocity and acceleration
  • Units and unit conversion
  • Waveform and spectrum (FFT)
  • Natural frequencies and generated frequencies
  • Basic forcing frequency calculations

Vibration Analysis II (Iso Cat II Asnt Level II)

The Vibration Analyst "Intermediate" course is intended for personnel who have at least twelve months vibration analysis experience and a thorough understanding of vibration theory and terminology. The course provides an in-depth study of machinery faults and their associated spectrum, time waveform and phase characteristics. Additional topic covered include: signal processing, data collection, and corrective active actions.

You will come away with a very good understanding of the fundamentals; you will understand the meaning of all of the measurement options on your data collector; you will understand the difference between the sensors types, and know how and where to mount them; and you will feel comfortable analyzing vibration spectra, time waveforms, envelope data, and phase data.

Principles of vibration
  • Complete review of basics
  • Waveform, spectrum (FFT), phase and orbits
  • Understanding signals: modulation, beating, sum/difference

Vibration Analysis III (Iso Cat Iii Asnt Level III)

The Vibration Specialist "Advanced" course is intended for personnel who have at least two years vibration analysis experience and a thorough understanding of vibration theory and terminology. The course provides an in-depth study of diagnostic measurement techniques and the associated applications of the techniques.

It is expected that the attendee is either the leader of the vibration team, or takes a leading role in diagnosing faults and making the final recommendation.  This person must fully understand all of the data collector options, special test capabilities, and analysis tools; and must understand the widest range of fault condition.

This course will give the analyst all of the skills and knowledge necessary to solve all fault conditions, and to run a successful condition monitoring program.

Principles of vibration
  • Quick review of Category II fundamentals
  • Waveform, spectrum, phase, vectors and orbits
  • Transients, pulses, modulation, beating, sum/difference
  •  Force, response, damping, and stiffness
  • Cepstrum analysis
